Who Made It To Stage 2 Of The The FedexCup Playoffs

One of the biggest movers last Sunday was Stuart Appleby who moved up 79 spots to no. 19 almost guaranteeing himself to play in the year ending tour Championship in September.

But we have to feel bad for Troy Merritt who made a good run on Sunday and moved up 10 spots with a 70 ( 1 under par ) on Day 4. But Merritt fell 1 standing short of gaining exemption into stage 2 of the playoffs in Boston at no. 101. Merritt flew home Monday morning disappointed after needing par on hole 18 to get in at no. 97 he 3 - putted for bogey to slip out of that position giving Geoff Ogilvy a chance to tee it up this week in Boston. Ogilvy missed the cut on Friday with two disappointing rounds of 73 and 76. Ogilvy then flew back home and watched the players who made the cut and followed his standing. The former US Open Champion said that he feels confident he can push the envelope to the Tour Championship late this September in Atlanta after making more than $600,000 in his last four starts just to have a chance.

Although it was Hunter Mahan who surprised plenty on Day 4 with a 6 under bar 65. After coming off a somewhat lackluster season Mahan made more money this Sunday then he had earned through the first 8 months of the season ( Mahan earned $1,440,000 this Sunday moving him up to no. 1 in the FedexCup Standings ).

You Can watch coverage of the Deutsche bank Championship starting Thursday, August 27th on these networks : Thursday, Friday on The Golf Channel 1pm - 7pm and Saturday, Sunday CBS, Global, NBC 3pm - 6pm.

2014 Rankings Selections

Here are my top 7 ranking selections for the 2014 season :

1. Rafael Nadal
Even missing the first 2 months of the season Rafael Nadal still ended the year at number 1. I expect him to take the French title this year and improve at Wimbledon from the last 2 years.

2. Novak Djockovic
He was number 1 for most of the year but was surpassed by Rafa. I expect another good year from Novak but I can't see the dominance that he has displayed lately.

3. Andy Murray
Andy is a great player and all but to me it seems that he does not have the game to consistently compete with Rafa or Novak. Including some back issues later in the year I can't see this season being an outbreak for Andy.

4. Stanislas Wawrinka
One of my favorite players on the ATP Tour. He has a huge game and has the heart to go a long way.
He beat Murray at Wimbledon in straight sets and brought Novak to 5 sets in 2 of the 4 majors.
I see great things for Stan this year and hope he does well!

5. David Ferrer
I don't think this will be the best of years for David but I think that he might do well in the French Open

6. Juan Martin Del Potro
Possibly the most consistent of top 10 players on the ATP Tour. Had a strong finish to the year and possibly continuing it into next year Jaun may be the guy to beat.

7. Richard Gasquet
The Frenchman had a great season this year. I can't see him getting any higher than the ranking of 7 this year but I still think he is a great player with great talent.

You may ask me a few other questions such as?
What rank do you think Milos is going to be? I think rank 8
What rank do you think Federer is going to be? I think rank 15
What rank do you think Popsisil is going to be? I think rank 22
What rank do you think Peliwo is going to be? I think rank 84

My next project will be top 100 for ATP and this same thing for WTA. Stay Tuned
Merry Christmas from, Michael
